Ways to Wellbeing: Learning from Locals is a project designed for primary and secondary schools in Dublin 8 that supports students in learning about mental health and wellbeing through engaging with the lives of the elderly community in Dublin 8. The project’s focus will be on promoting wellbeing in both the young and older population of Dublin 8 through the facilitation of meaningful and rewarding conversations between local young and elderly people.

This is an initiative of Walk in My Shoes (WIMS). WIMS is the flagship awareness-raising and education campaign of St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS).

The objective of this project is to foster local connections and encourage students to learn from those in the community with many years of life experience. Through participating in the project, young people and the elderly in the Dublin 8 area, may foster intergenerational connections.

Through participating in the project, students will seek to learn the following from the older population:

  • Tips for living a mentally healthy life
  • How to build resilience
  • An important lesson the older person learned that made a positive difference to their life.
